Description of Black and White Photography For Beginners
You cannot talk about black-and-white photography without talking a little about the history of photography itself. The two are inextricably linked because all we had, to begin with, was black and white at the medium’s dawn.
The equipment and techniques we have today are a far cry from those early days when the pioneers of photography were experimenting with collecting light, light-sensitive materials, and equipment to capture and focus the image.
See the world in black and white as we introduce you to this timeless medium. At the dawn of photography as we know it, when everything was fresh and new, you had no choice but to shoot in black and white.
Exposing images onto glass or metal plates gave way to the film and chemical process. It wasn’t until 1936 that Kodak gave the world color photography. However, black-and-white photography didn’t die off like black-and-white TV; it flourished.
Whichever way you look at it, color distracts you from the heart of what should make a great photo. Things like texture, composition, form, lighting, and good old storytelling can be swamped and made inconsequential by color. It’s not to say that ccoloris an invalid medium.
